Let us take the example of quantum theory of atoms. You should know that the quantum theory was proposed by Maxwell who defined the quantum theory as well. Let me tell you a little bit of it. The atom is divided into sub shells and each shell contains the electrons. These electrons move round the nucleus and the energy is transferred from one layer to another in the form of quantum.
I must tell you that the Max Plank quantum theory is very important in the field of quantum physics. The energy is transformed from one energy level to another and I must tell you that this is done through wave packets. And these wave packets form the quantum. Each quantum is the smallest packets of energy which can be formed.
There is another thing for you. I must tell you that the sub quantum theory which was first applied on the atom can be applied in different fields as well. For example you can take the information theory. Here the quantum represents the bits and the data is transferred from one place to another in the form of the quantum which is the bits. The information theory uses the quantum theory on large scale.
There are many fields on which quantum theory can be applied and in fact is applied. The field of biology too uses the quantum theory and the modern physics is totally dependent on the quantum theory.
Either it is the ray optics or the wave optics, the concept of quantum is applied on almost every field and I must tell you that they all are simply great. The field of physics is totally dependent upon the quantum theory. All the scientists like the Maxwell, plank as well as Einstein use the concept of quantum theory in their studies.
Specially, Maxwell, who decided to join all the branches of the physics and did a great job, and he was quiet successful as well. He was greatly helped by plank who invented the quantum theory. Both of them together produced the max plank quantum theory and I must tell you that they were quiet able to come to the zenith of the topic of their research.
There are many reasons why I feel that the quantum physics is successful. Almost all the new theories are derived from quantum physics. The theory of relativity is also derived from the same. Hence you should definitely know about it.
